  • You did not receive a title when you purchased the vehicle.
  • The title you received was incorrectly assigned to you.
  • You lost the title before transferring it into your name.
  • The title was stolen, destroyed or severely damaged.
  • The title is in the name of a previous owner who cannot be located.

How to Get a Bonded Title in Wyoming

Step 1: Search title records

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (DOT) Motor Vehicle Services will conduct a title search to identify if any active liens or previous record holders exist. If any previous owners or lienholders are found, you must contact them.

Step 2: Get a VIN inspection

Schedule a VIN inspection with local law enforcement. This step verifies that the vehicle is not stolen and confirms its identity before proceeding with the title application.

Step 3: Fill out an Affidavit of Ownership

Complete the Wyoming Affidavit of Vehicle Ownership form. This form explains why you cannot obtain the original title or lien information. Ensure all details are accurate and complete.

Step 4: Determine the vehicle value and purchase a bond (if required)

Calculate your vehicle’s value using Kelley Blue Book or NADA. If the appraised value is over $2,500, you’ll need to purchase a Wyoming certificate of title bond worth two times the vehicle’s value.
