What Is a Georgia Scrap Tire Carrier Bond?

Scrap tire surety bonds are required by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Protection Division to guarantee compliance with licensing laws. The following scrap tire businesses must file a bond to legally operate in Georgia:

  • Scrap tire carrier: Provider that transports scrap and used tires
  • Scrap tire baler facility: Facility that uses a baler to recycle and compress waste tire material for storage or shipping
  • Scrap tire processor: Facility that recycles scrap tires into other usable materials

How Much Do Scrap Tire Surety Bonds Cost in Georgia?

Georgia scrap tire carrier bonds are issued instantly at a set price to all applicants. If you haul less than 5,000 tires per year, you need a $10,000 bond. If you transport 5,000 or more tires per year, you need a $20,000 bond.

  • $10,000 Scrap Tire Carrier Bond: $100 annual premium
  • $20,000 Scrap Tire Carrier Bond: $200 annual premium

You can save up to 25% by selecting a multi-year term at checkout, making your premium as low as $75 per year!

Georgia scrap tire processor bonds cost a small percentage of the $20,000 bond coverage amount. You can expect to pay $200–$2,000 based on your personal credit score.

Georgia scrap tire baler facilities must file surety bonds in the amount determined by the Environmental Protection Division. Your premium will be calculated as a small percentage of the total bond coverage, starting at 1% if you have excellent credit.

How Do Georgia Scrap Tire Bonds Work?

These surety bonds ensure that scrap tire carriers, balers and processors perform their duties per the Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act and fulfill all permit obligations.

Prohibited business practices under this act include, but are not limited to:

  • Knowingly violating any material condition or requirement of the permit
  • Purposely omitting material information or placing false material statements on labels, manifests, records, reports or other documents filed for purposes of compliance with the Georgia Code
  • Knowingly collecting or transporting tires without a manifest
  • Not maintaining receipts indicating disposal of the scrap tires
  • Storing more than the maximum amount of tires in the state at any given time

If a carrier fails to comply with these terms, the bond protects the state from financial loss.

How Do I Renew My Bond?

Scrap tire surety bonds in Georgia remain active until released by the Environmental Protection Division. All you need to do is pay your renewal invoice with SuretyBonds.com to maintain your bonded status. Select a multi-year term to save the hassle of annual renewal.

The surety can cancel the bond by sending 120-days’ notice of cancellation to the Scrap Tire Management Program, Environmental Protection Division.
